Several colleges and universities in the St. Louis metropolitan region and surrounding areas offer degree programs in construction management, engineering and other related fields.  Community colleges offer programs geared towards receiving associate degrees.  Four-year institutions offer programs to obtain a bachelor and masters degree.  See individual listings for more information on specific programs.


Ranken Technical College   St. Louis Community College (SLCC), Forest Park
Ranken Technical College is located in St. Louis, Missouri.  The Construction Division at Ranken offers comprehensive programs in several construction fields.  See the website for specific programs.  Once you open the Ranken site, click on Programs/Day Programs, then click on "Course Catalog" and finally, "Construction" to view all of Ranken's construction related programs.

The Engineering and Technology Division of SLCC at Forest Park has a variety of programs in specialized areas such as Plumbing Design, Computer Aided Design and Drafting and several skilled trades.  Degrees and certification differ according to area of study.  See the website for specific programs.

Washington University offers comprehensive programs in Construction Management and Civil Engineering  with degrees ranging from the undergraduate to doctoral levels.  Please see the website for the degree program of interest.  Refer to the website and scroll down to the appropriate program.

  Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville offers a comprehensive program in construction management with minor in business.  In addition to the curriculum, students are able to benefit from a variety of services including career advising and leadership training.  See the website for mor information:

The undergraduate Civil Engineering Program offered through SIUE School of Engineering equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop a career in civil engineering.  Civil engineering refers to creating and maintenance of structures such as bridges, treatment facilities, and a multitude of other projects.  Individuals with a degree in civil engineering may work on aerospace, environmental, and public policy projects.  Scholarships are available through SIUE School of Engineering.  Please refer to the website for more information about the program and possible scholarship opportunities.

  Individuals that have completed an apprenticeship through a building trades union are eligible to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree from East Central College.  Students apply their apprenticeship experience towards credit hours for completing the Applied Science Program.  See the website for more details.

Students are also able to earn an Associate Degree in Building Construction through Eastern Central College.  Completion of this program will enable students to become certified to enter the workforce as well as apply the associate degree towards a bachelor's degree from a four-year institution.  See the website for further details.

  Individuals who have completed an apprenticeship program through a building trades union are eligible to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree from Jefferson College.  Students apply their apprenticeship experience towards credit hours for completing the Applied Science Program.  See the website for more details.

Individuals that have obtained a certificate of apprenticeship completion through a building trades union are eligible to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Skilled Trades from St. Charles Community College.  The Skilled Trades degree program at St. Charles Community College provides an opportunity for union employees- apprentices or journeyman- to receive college credit for previously acquired knowledge and apprenticeship experience.  Contact Career Service for more information.  Their website is listed below:

St. Charles Community College also offers an Associate of Applied Science Program in Computer Aided Drafting/Manufacturing.  Through this program, students learn about architecture and improve design skills.  Please refer to the website below for more information:

St. Charles Community College provides students with an opportunity to develop computer drafting skills through the Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) certificate program.  With this certificate, students are eligible to gain entry-level employment.  Please refer to the website below:

  The University of Missouri-St. Louis offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering through its Joint Undergraduate Engineering Program with Washington University.  Students can go either part-time or full-time.  All engineering courses are in the evening at Washington University.  The program is designed to be as similar as possible to a Washington University Civil Engineering education.  The tuition is the UM-St. Louis tuition plus a small surcharge.  The degree conferred is from the University of Missouri.

Southwestern IL College Construction Program
  Construction Leadership Institute

Southwestern IL College Construction Program provides the academic background, technical specialization, and field necessary to begin a career in construction management. Emphasis is placed on practices and principals necessary to compete in today’s construction industry. Both a CMT Certification and an Associate in Applied Science Degree are offered. Southwestern IL College also partners with local unions to provide the Construction Apprenticeship Trailing Programs which offer certificates in the various disciplines. Students seeking admission to an apprenticeship program must meet the admission requirements of the IBEW, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training, Department of Labor and Southwestern Illinois College.

  Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville administers the Construction Leadership Institute for individuals that hold leadership positions in contracting firms with general or specialty contract firms.  The Institute offers courses in construction finance, legal issues in construction and construction ethics.  Please see the website for more information about the Construction Leadership Institute.
